The chairman of a House committee says dozens of bills filed this year offering tax deductions for things like hearing aids, child care expenses and certain forms of income will not get a hearing in his committee.
Oklahoma City Republican Rep. David Dank said Monday that any bills assigned to his committee with a negative fiscal impact on state revenues will not be heard. Dank chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Revenue and Taxation to which most tax bills with a fiscal impact are assigned.
A longtime critic of the hundreds of millions of dollars in state tax credits and exemptions, Dank said Monday it was time to "draw a line in the sand and say no more."
The shortfall in next year's budget currently is estimated at $300 million.
