Unified Court Computer System May Be "Scrapped"

A state legislator says a multimillion-dollar plan to build a unified court computer system for all of Oklahoma's 77 counties has been so plagued with problems and delays that it may need to be scrapped altogether.

Sapulpa Republican Rep. Mark McCullough said Wednesday he was shocked to learn Oklahoma court officials this week ended a contract with the top vendor on the $13 million venture.

A fund created to pay for the project contained more than $30 million, and lawmakers grappling with a tight budget this year took $10 million from it to pay for other court operations.

Court officials cited the withdrawal of the $10 million as the reason the contract was canceled, but said the state is capable of finishing the project.
