University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren today announced a half-billion-dollar campaign to fund new scholarships, laboratories, classroom upgrades and other programs.
The “Live On, University” campaign will culminate at OU’s125th anniversary, December of 20-15. President Boren said the new scholarships will keep students from being burdened with debt.
“Never before has the University of Oklahoma been in greater need of financial support from its alumni and friends,” Boren said. “We must continue to set the highest standards of educational excellence for this generation of students. It is an investment to secure our future.”
OU has more than doubled its private scholarships in the past five years. Still, 57 percent of students and their families must take out loans to pay for college costs – loans of $22,140 on average and higher for students in professional, advanced and medical-related fields.
