“Tonight I’ll run five miles through my neighborhood, a task that at one time seemed Herculean and has almost begun to feel downright routine. I’ve been intentional about weaving running into my life, it has become almost irreplaceable as a source of sanity for me.”

Nathan Gunter wrote these words in his blog just last month. Starting in late January, Gunter planned out a three-and-a-half month training program for first-time runners.

The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was charged Monday with using a weapon of mass destruction to kill three people and wound more than 200 in what FBI investigators said evidence shows was a coldly calculated attack.

Oklahoma City Prepares For Memorial Marathon

Since 2001, the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum has held the marathon to commemorate the bombings in that city, which killed 168 people and injured more than 800 others. But given the events at the Boston Marathon, Oklahoma City marathon organizers are cautiously evaluating security plans and making their decisions one day at a time.
In the next two weeks, more than 30 marathons are scheduled in the United States, in cities big and small. Among them is the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, April 28.

OKC Marathon Will Go On As Planned, Officials Discuss Security

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says there have been no threats or heightened security in the aftermath of a bombing at the Boston Marathon - but that senses are heightened.

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says there are currently no plans to call off this year's Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon - but said events will be monitored daily.

"Obviously this time of the year on the calendar is a heightened alert in Oklahoma City. It has been for 18 years," Cornett says, referencing the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building.
