Gathering of Information
KGOU collects personally-identifying information (such as your name, e-mail address, address, telephone number, or donation information) from the KGOU web site and the StateImpact Oklahoma web site for a variety of purposes.
KGOU asks visitors to provide certain personal information when they register for certain features or services of the KGOU and StateImpact Oklahoma web sites, when they create a profile on the StateImpact Oklahoma blog, when they make a donation, when they e-mail, send via SMS (Short Message Service) or text message, or otherwise share a story from the KGOU web site, the KGOU Facebook page, KGOU Twitter account, or the StateImpact Oklahoma web site, when they post, upload, transmit and/or otherwise submit ("Submit") a comment, message, story idea, essay, photo, image, or other text, content or material ("User Materials"), and when they register for any online contests. KGOU also may ask visitors to provide personal information in other limited circumstances specified at the time the information is gathered. Any information that you Submit on or through these web sites or other social networking features, as part of story or blog comments, or otherwise Submit may become public, including the full name or nickname that you provide when registering.
Like all other Web servers, KGOU's Web server automatically creates log files for each visitor who accesses the KGOU web site and social networking sites, and the StateImpact Oklahoma web site. These "access logs" allow us to make our site more useful to our visitors. The access logs do NOT record a visitor's name, address, e-mail address, credit card numbers, or any other personally-identifying information. Rather, they contain some or all of the following information:
• The Internet Protocol Address (IP Address) of the machine which accessed the KGOU or StateImpact Oklahoma web site.
• General location information (based on IP Address)
• Some demographic information associated with your IP address, such as age and gender.
• The date of the visit.
• The time of the visit.
• The path taken through the KGOU or StateImpact Oklahoma web site.
• The browser being used.
• A list of files downloaded or viewed.
• The amount of time spent listening to/viewing media files.
• Any errors encountered.
Cookies and Other Technologies
KGOU also uses 'cookies' to collect information. A cookie is a string of characters that can be written to a file on the user's hard drive when the user visits a web site, application or service. Only the web site, application or service that set the cookie can read it, and it can only be used as a record keeping device to store user IDs and information that the site already has. It cannot be used to read other information from the user's hard drive.
KGOU and the third party vendors that measure and analyze use of the StateImpact Oklahoma web site also may use web beacons, alone or in conjunction with cookies, to help compile information about and facilitate usage of the StateImpact Oklahoma web site. A web beacon is an electronic image which can be used to recognize certain information on your computer, such as cookies, the time and date of a page viewed, and a description of where a Content Feed is placed.
If you wish to prevent certain or all cookies or web beacons from being set to your hard drive or device, or to clear existing cookies or web beacons from your browser’s or device’s cache, you may be able to disable them in your browser's preferences, although your browser might then be unable to accommodate certain functionalities on the StateImpact Oklahoma web site.
Google has information about how to opt out of data collection.
Use of Information
The use of personally-identifying information is limited to the following: managing and administering the KGOU and StateImpact Oklahoma web sites; responding to user messages; listing name and location (city, state and/or country) information provided by users when broadcasting or publishing User Materials; processing donations; contest management; editorial purposes such as contacting users for an online survey; sending KGOU e-mail newsletters and other communications, including marketing, promotional and fundraising communications, other internal KGOU, OPME, NPR or NPR member station purposes; and other purposes specified at the time the information is gathered. KGOU may contact users regarding their submissions in certain circumstances.
In addition, if you send User Materials to NPR through the StateImpact Oklahoma web site, we may print the User Materials, or an excerpt from the User Materials, on the KGOU and StateImpact Oklahoma web sites, read them on air, or otherwise publish them in any other medium, together with your name and location (city, state and/or country) if you provide that information to us.
Excluding information provided by the user as discussed above, personally-identifying information collected by KGOU is not provided to outside parties except as required In these circumstances, the information is provided for the sole purpose of -- and only to the extent necessary for -- delivering the requested goods to the user, delivering communications from KGOU to users who have 'opted in' to the receipt of these communications, providing services for and on behalf of KGOU, or serving other internal station purposes.
KGOU also may disclose personal information if required to do so by law or if it believes that such action is necessary to comply with the law or with legal process, protect against misuse or unauthorized use of KGOU’s or OPME’s products or services, or protect the personal safety or property of users of the KGOU or StateImpact Oklahoma web sites, the public or KGOU and its employees.
If you do not want your personally-identifying information to be collected or used for any of these purposes, please do not provide it (although if you do not provide it, you may not be able to use or participate in certain features of the KGOU or StateImpact Oklahoma web sites).
KGOU, with the assistance from time to time of its third party service vendors, uses non-identifying aggregate information to analyze use of and better design for the KGOU and StateImpact Oklahoma web sites and to share with third parties in aggregate form only as appropriate. For example, we may tell a third party that a certain number of users accessed a particular audio stream on our Web site. However, we will not disclose any information that could be used to identify those users.
KGOU has in place what we believe to be appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online. Because most e-mail and mobile transmissions are not encrypted, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to KGOU via e-mail, SMS or text message, or other mobile transmission. Online credit card donations are redirected to a secure web site operated by a third-party vendor with appropriate security certification(s) as required or recommended by KGOU’s governing body. KGOU, OPME and its partners assume no liability for the security of information gathered by this third-party vendor.

Sharing Personal Data of Donors/Subscribers
KGOU does not sell, trade, or give its mailing, email, social media, text messaging or phone lists to any outside organization or for any purpose except to further the mission of KGOU. KGOU does not allow its lists, databases or contacts (including mail, email, social media, phone, text messaging, etc.) to be distributed or used for sales, promotion, trade or in any fashion not directly related to the activities of KGOU and controlled in accordance with its policies, procedures and legal requirements. Although KGOU may receive requests for list-related information or use thereof, KGOU has never participated in any arrangement that might compromise the security of its database information, allow use of its lists and distribution channels for commercial gain, violate the privacy of those persons on the lists, or subject KGOU to legal liability or ethical violation, nor does it intend to do so. Moreover, KGOU will not use its lists, databases, contacts or distribution channels in a manner that creates an actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest.
Corrections to Personal Data; Opting Out
Please Contact Us to correct or update any personal information in the KGOU database, opt-out of future communications from KGOU, or request that KGOU make reasonable efforts to remove your personal information from KGOU’s databases. This will not necessarily remove previous public comments and other User Materials Submitted for public display on the KGOU or StateImpact Oklahoma web sites.
